{"id":76985,"date":"2019-04-18T03:46:07","date_gmt":"2019-04-18T01:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=76985"},"modified":"2019-04-18T03:46:07","modified_gmt":"2019-04-18T01:46:07","slug":"lilongwe-city-council-closes-kfc-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/04\/18\/lilongwe-city-council-closes-kfc-restaurant\/","title":{"rendered":"Lilongwe City Council closes KFC restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Macdonald Thom:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_76989\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76989\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/waste.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-76989\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/waste-300x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/waste-300x286.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/waste-32x32.jpg 32w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/waste.jpg 383w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-76989\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CONDEMNED\u2014 The sewage reportedly from KFC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has closed KFC Restaurant at City Mall due to what it says is failure by management to comply with Section 59 of the Public Health Act.<\/p>\n<p>A letter from LCC Chief Executive Officer, John Chome, to KFC\u2019 Craig Davis says inspectors on Tuesday discovered that the restaurant\u2019s staff were emptying liquid waste from a septic tank serving the restaurant into an open storm-water drain along the M1 Road.<\/p>\n<p>The letter is dated April 17 2019.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cTaking into consideration the nature of your business and, following the outbreak of cholera within the city, the council has decided to close the restaurant in accordance with Bylaw 23 of the Local Government (Food By-law) 2018,\u201d<\/em> reads the letter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It says the restaurant should treat the storm-water drain where septic water was being discharged in the presence, and satisfaction, of council officials.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also says all related structures of the septic tank outside the City Mall Plot and the M1 Road Reserve must be removed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cUpon compliance with the above issues, you may wish to re-apply for the licences.
