{"id":76938,"date":"2019-04-17T10:45:01","date_gmt":"2019-04-17T08:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=76938"},"modified":"2019-04-17T10:45:01","modified_gmt":"2019-04-17T08:45:01","slug":"mcp-pledges-peaceful-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/04\/17\/mcp-pledges-peaceful-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"MCP pledges peaceful polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Audrey Kapalamula:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/mulomole.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-30738\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/mulomole-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/mulomole-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/mulomole.jpg 820w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Malawi Congress Party (MCP), through Public Affairs Committee (Pac), has made a commitment to promote peace before, during and after the May 21 Tripartite Elections.<\/p>\n<p>Party president Lazarus Chakwera and secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka signed a peace pact after meeting with Pac officials yesterday in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cPac is concerned with the continued tendency of perpetuating violence and we were engaged to make sure that the cases do not escalate.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt is a preventive measure because we were looking at what could be done to make sure that the campaign is peaceful and after the elections,\u201d<\/em> Mkaka said<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Pac officials, who have been meeting with electoral stakeholders, have, so far, engaged United Democratic Front president Atupele Muluzi and Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku Movement for Development, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The committee\u2019s spokesperson, Fr Peter Mulomole, recently said the committee believed that committing stakeholders to signing the peace accord would minimise cases of conflict that could mar the electoral process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Audrey Kapalamula: Malawi Congress Party (MCP), through Public Affairs Committee (Pac), has made a commitment to promote peace before, during and after the May 21 Tripartite Elections.
