{"id":76821,"date":"2019-04-15T10:39:14","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T08:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=76821"},"modified":"2019-04-15T10:39:14","modified_gmt":"2019-04-15T08:39:14","slug":"albino-abduction-cases-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/04\/15\/albino-abduction-cases-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Albino abduction cases down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Yohane Symon: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cases of abduction of people with albinism have declined in Eastern Region Police division, Eastern Region Police Commissioner Arlene Baluwa has said.<\/p>\n<p>She said this during a meeting with traditional leaders, Police officers and Association of People with Albinism (Apam) members in Mangochi District.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cOur region, especially in districts such as Mangochi and Machinga, used to register a lot of cases of abduction and killing targeting people with albinism.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHowever, we seem to be making progress. Last year, we registered a single case, thanks to the good working relationship with traditional leaders, proper coordination among police personnel as well as the understanding of our friends with albinism,\u201d<\/em> Baluwa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Eastern Region Apam Chapter Chairperson, William Masapi, said the situation has, somewhat, improved but was still not safe enough for people with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/parliament-wants-foreign-experts-on-people-with-albinism-attacks\/\">albinism<\/a> to do things with peace of mind.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cApam members in the region are still living in fear such that there is need to completely end cases of violence against people with albinism,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Yohane Symon: Cases of abduction of people with albinism have declined in Eastern Region Police division, Eastern Region Police Commissioner Arlene Baluwa has said.
