{"id":76811,"date":"2019-04-15T10:18:55","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T08:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=76811"},"modified":"2019-04-15T10:18:55","modified_gmt":"2019-04-15T08:18:55","slug":"tanzania-agrees-1-7-billion-deal-with-world-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/04\/15\/tanzania-agrees-1-7-billion-deal-with-world-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania agrees $1.7 billion deal with World Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tanzania has agreed a new $1.7 billion financing deal with the World Bank to fund projects during fiscal year 2019\/20, its finance ministry said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement, which is comprised of low-interest loans and grants, includes a $400m loan for education and $300m for a poverty reduction programme.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cPart of the financing will also be used to fund various infrastructure projects such as roads, water, information and communication technology&#8230;and energy,\u201d<\/em> the ministry said in the statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tanzania plans to raise its total spending in 2019-20 (July-June) slightly to 33.11 trillion shillings ($14.16 billion), with the funds going towards improving roads, railways and rural electricity supplies.<\/p>\n<p>The financing deal was reached during talks between Tanzania\u2019s Finance and Planning Minister, Philip Mpango, and the World Bank Vice President for Africa, Hafez Ghalem, in Washington.<\/p>\n<p>The spending is up from 32.48 trillion shillings in the fiscal year that will end in June.<\/p>\n<p>Loans and grants are a big source of foreign currency for Tanzania.\u2014<strong>Reuters <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tanzania has agreed a new $1.7 billion financing deal with the World Bank to fund projects during fiscal year 2019\/20, its finance ministry said on Saturday.
