{"id":7662,"date":"2015-08-18T07:54:26","date_gmt":"2015-08-18T07:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=7662"},"modified":"2015-08-18T07:54:26","modified_gmt":"2015-08-18T07:54:26","slug":"y-tjukutja-hit-makers-to-perform-at-lake-of-stars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/08\/18\/y-tjukutja-hit-makers-to-perform-at-lake-of-stars\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Y-Tjukutja\u2019 hit makers to perform at Lake of Stars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s award-winning group Uhuru famed for the hit \u2018Y-Tjukutja,\u2019 will be among the international headliners performing at this year\u2019s Lake of Stars Festival to be held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi from September 25 -27.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers confirmed this in a press release, saying they are excited to have Uhuru on board this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing the final regional headliner to be announced, we are excited to have this very talented band come in for this year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Lake of Stars, one of our aims is to support local artists by providing platforms through the festival for them to expose their music to local and international audiences,\u201d said Lake of Stars Founder Will Jameson.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers have since dangled two tickets for people to see the group performing live on September 25.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll you have to do is share the Uhuru post on our Facebook page and name your favourite Uhuru track in the comments. The randomly selected winner will be announced on Thursday at 6pm,\u201d reads the statement on the organisers Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Uhuru is a four-man music group best known for producing the hit single by South Africa\u2019s Mafikizolo titled \u2018Khona\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The group, which comprises Themba Sekowe (Maphorisa), Nqobile Mahlanu (Mapiano), Sihle Dlalisisa (DJ Clap) and Xelimpilo Simelane (Xeli), is signed to Kalawa Jazmee.<\/p>\n<p>Uhuru have collaborated with Nigeria\u2019s Davido, Mafikizolo and Professor, DJ Buckz, Bongo Maffin, Oskido, Wizkid, and Runtown.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Y-Tjukutja\u2019 was hailed by <em>The Guardian <\/em>as \u2018a certified summer club smash hit.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Having won the 2015 MTV Africa Music Award for best collaboration with Davido in July this year, Uhuru are expected to light the Lake of Stars Festival with their unique style of kwaito and house music.<\/p>\n<p>Uhuru will share the stage with several other acts performing at this year\u2019s festival and they include locals Lucius Banda, Sally Nyundo, Lulu, Gwamba, Agorosso and Dan Lu.<\/p>\n<p>Jameson said they want to help grow the creative industry in the country and that through the festival they are opening up links to regional and international artists through connections with acts from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigeria, Ghana, DRC, England, and Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Other artists set to perform at the festival, which returned last year after a two-year hiatus, include Bucci, Danny Kalima, George Kalukusha, Michael Mountain, Donnex Muva, Neil and the new vibration, The Smooth Groovers, Lusubilo Band, Gasper Nali, Body, Mind and Soul, Jaco Jana and Lady Pace.<\/p>\n<p>Additional acts from the regional and international s c ene inc lude Young Fathers (Scotland), Ric Hassani (Nigeria), Toya Delazy (South Africa), The Undergrounds (SA), DJ Fosta (SA), EJ von Lyrik (SA), bFake (SA), Etoile de la Paix (DR Congo), Menes (DR Congo), Deana Weeks (Nambia), and Ingvild Homme (Norway).<\/p>\n<p>Jameson said they have a long list this year and the other artists performing are Ambassadors from the UN\u2019s SYP project; Bryan K (Zimbabwe), DJ Kaliwa (Zambia), KrTC (Swaziland), Stlofa (Lesotho) , Tha Dogg (Namibia) and Zeus (Botswana).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year we had Mafikizolo as one of our international headliners, a band that collaborated with Uhuru which we have it this year,\u201d said Jameson.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Jameson has announced that the festival which this year has also hosted a Shorts Film and Children\u2019s Festivals, has partnered with \u2018Sunny Money\u2019 who he said are providing 200 solar lights at the festival to be donated to the community.<\/p>\n<p>Other companies that have partnered the festival this year include Airtel Malawi, Malawian Airlines, MultiChoice Malawi, Capital FM, Royal Norwegian Embassy, Creative Scotland and Sunbird Hotels and Resorts.<\/p>\n<p>Since it was started, the Lake of Stars has produced 10 festivals and over 100 events in the UK and Africa since starting the project in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Jameson said the festival has contributed a lot to the development of tourism and the arts in the country since 2003 and is estimated to have generated over US$4.7 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s award-winning group Uhuru famed for the hit \u2018Y-Tjukutja,\u2019 will be among the international headliners performing at this year\u2019s Lake of Stars Festival to be held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi from September 25 -27.
