{"id":76263,"date":"2019-04-01T10:43:35","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T08:43:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=76263"},"modified":"2019-04-01T10:43:35","modified_gmt":"2019-04-01T08:43:35","slug":"flood-survivors-struggle-in-chikwawa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/04\/01\/flood-survivors-struggle-in-chikwawa\/","title":{"rendered":"Flood survivors struggle in Chikwawa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Isaac Salima: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some flood victims from 15 villages in Group Village Head Sekeni 2 in Traditional Authority Lundu in Chikwawa District have expressed concern that they are not receiving food assistance from the government and other well-wishers.<\/p>\n<p>This, they say, has forced them to engage in various forms of piece work to survive.<\/p>\n<p>At least 1,850 households were displaced by the floods and are staying in different temporary shelters around the area.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking when they assembled at St Mathew Primary School to receive eggs from Donna\u2019s Eggs Company, the victims said life in the camps is hell.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe rarely get food assistance and we don\u2019t know where government support is going. Since I came here, this is the first time I have received food. We are struggling to get food and we have to do piecework in people\u2019s fields in order to get money to buy food because we have children to take care of,\u201d<\/em> Faina Ndenguma said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The flood victims hailed Donna\u2019s Eggs Company for helping them with 6,000 trays of eggs.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s Sales Manager, Tsimikizo Chikoya, said they felt the need to assist the people because the crisis needs different hands of support.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe floods have hit hard the people and we also noticed that relish was a big challenge to the victims, hence our decision to assist them with the eggs which will also help them to get nutritious food,\u201d<\/em> Chikoya said<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Isaac Salima: Some flood victims from 15 villages in Group Village Head Sekeni 2 in Traditional Authority Lundu in Chikwawa District have expressed concern that they are not receiving food assistance from the government and other well-wishers.
