{"id":76151,"date":"2019-03-28T11:39:17","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T09:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=76151"},"modified":"2019-03-28T11:39:17","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T09:39:17","slug":"no-job-losses-after-unima-delinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/03\/28\/no-job-losses-after-unima-delinking\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018No job losses after Unima delinking\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Jarson Malowa, <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Contributor:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/saka1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-17838\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/saka1-287x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/saka1-287x300.jpg 287w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/saka1.jpg 308w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/><\/a>University of Malawi (Unima) Council has assured that the delinking of the university would not result into job losses for the institution\u2019s employees.<\/p>\n<p>Unima Council Chairperson, Reverend Billy Gama, said this Wednesday on the sidelines of the graduation of the second cohort of the year 2017\/2018 at Chancellor College (Chanco) in Zomba.<\/p>\n<p>Before Parliament dissolved early this month, legislators approved three bills to de-link Unima.<\/p>\n<p>However, Gama assured all the university\u2019s employees that no one would lose their job following the de-linking of Unima.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe Chancellor of the University of Malawi, Professor Peter Mutharika, instructed me that I must make sure that no one loses his or her job after the splitting of the University of Malawi into three, so I assure everyone that nobody will lose their job over the disbandment,\u201d<\/em> Gama said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He, however, said the de-linking of the university would create more jobs in the country.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cFor instance, we are now going to have three vice chancellors because of the coming in of the three universities,\u201d<\/em> Gama said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In his remarks, Unima Vice Chancellor, John Kalenga Saka, said the de-linking process would create more space for other students to attain higher education.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAs you have already seen, there are new structures here at Chancellor College and The Polytechnic which will accommodate open and distance learning. This will create a window for other students to attain higher education,\u201d<\/em> Saka said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said the university continues to grow as it engages its international stakeholders.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have dialogue on higher education with The Embassy of The People\u2019s Republic of China towards international academic partnership between Chinese universities and ours in the country,\u201d<\/em> added Saka.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The graduation ceremony involved 610 students from Chancellor College, The Polytechnic and College of Medicine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jarson Malowa, Contributor: University of Malawi (Unima) Council has assured that the delinking of the university would not result into job losses for the institution\u2019s employees.
