Her songs also continue to enjoy airplay in different platforms in the country.

Chinga’s daughter Miracle, who has been in the limelight with her brother Steve Spesho, said Wednesday all was set for the memorial to celebrate her mother’s life and music exploits.

“First of all, I would like to thank Mibawa for coming out to support us in this show. Since we lost our mother, we have always wanted to hold a memorial show but we could not manage due to resources. Now Mibawa has relieved us. We want to celebrate with the people my mother’s life and music,” Miracle said.

She said during the memorial, people will have a chance of enjoying almost all her mother’s songs which she will perform live.

“We will make sure that we perform all the songs from all her albums including the ones she left. She had lots of songs and some of them she did not record. I hope we will have the time to perform all the songs. It will be an afternoon to remember,” Miracle said.

She said with resources permitting, they would want the memorial show to continue being held every year.

“I learnt a lot from my mother, I am in music today because of my mother. She taught me the dos and don’ts of music. I can say since she passed on, I have been under pressure to fill my mother’s shoes but God has been there and guided me. She was such a talented musician and most of all, a loving mother. We miss her,” she said.

Miracle said she will continue to keep her mother’s legacy alive together with her siblings Steve Spesho and Israel.

“I can say there has been progress in my music. I am currently working on my own songs and this year for sure I will be releasing my debut album. But that does not mean I will stop performing my mother’s songs, my songs are just an addition to my mother’s collection. Steve Spesho is also working on his album so there is more work on the ground,” she said.

So far Miracle has managed to record three songs ‘Kumusakaniza’, ‘Mulungu Pondilenga’, and ‘Hossana’.

“The songs are not on the market but people have already started accessing them just to have a taste. There are more songs coming but I am taking my time. I have managed to produce a music video for ‘Hossana’,” she said.

The youthful musician, who is currently pursuing business studies at Malawi College of Accountancy in Blantyre, said she will continue to learn from her mother’s music.

“I cannot move away from my mother’s style because I look up to her in music and I am not changing because of what people are saying. Even if I copy some of her style I don’t think I am wrong. Grace was my mother and I am in music today because she made this path,” Miracle said.

She admitted that sometimes she has been under pressure but God has been her shield and that with time she believes all things will take shape as regards music as well as having a manager.

“As human beings we have shortfalls but people have been with us. I also would like to encourage parents to support their children if they notice talent in them. Do not discourage them because you never know what they will become tomorrow,” Miracle said.

Mibawa’s Daniel Thom better known as Super DT said the show is part of their corporate social responsibility.

“Grace Chinga contributed so much to the nation and we thought of helping out with a memorial. The whole show is for free, sound is for free and so all proceeds will go to the children,” DT said.

Other artists set to perform at the memorial show include Eliza Mponya, All Angels Choir, Robertson Music, Eliza Longwe, Anglican Voices, Carlo Kadzuwa, Francis Khembo and Gloria Manong’a.

By Sam Banda Jnr: Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre will on Sunday play host to the memorial of renowned fallen gospel star Grace Chinga.
