{"id":75236,"date":"2019-03-06T03:39:50","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T01:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=75236"},"modified":"2019-03-06T03:39:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T01:39:50","slug":"nbs-to-close-5-branches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/03\/06\/nbs-to-close-5-branches\/","title":{"rendered":"NBS to close 5 branches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Taonga Sabola: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/timothy-ngwira.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-48582\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/timothy-ngwira-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/timothy-ngwira-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/timothy-ngwira.jpg 662w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Malawi Stock Exchange-listed NBS Bank has said it plans to close five branches across the country.<\/p>\n<p>NBS Bank said Tuesday the five branches are Chitipa, Ntchisi, Kamuzu International Airport, Riverside and Neno.<\/p>\n<p>The bank said the branches will be closed from March 18.<\/p>\n<p>The development brings the number of NBS Bank branches in Malawi to 27 from 32.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAny bank accounts and facilities will be automatically transferred to the nearest NBS Bank service centres before the closure date,\u201d<\/em> reads a statement from the bank.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>NBS Bank Marketing Manager, Timothy Ngwira, was not immediately available to comment on what would happen to staff in the affected service centres.<\/p>\n<p>The closure of branches at NBS comes at a time another listed commercial bank, National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has embarked on a voluntary retrenchment excerise.<\/p>\n<p>NBS Bank says customers may continue transacting at any of its Banki Pafupi agents in the affected and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>NBS Bank is a fully fledged commercial bank providing a wide range of financial services to individuals, small and medium businesses, large corporations and public institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The bank was incorporated as a limited company on March 14 2003 and was registered under the Banking Act 1989 on 1st March 2004. It started its commercial banking operations on 1stJuly 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The bank\u2019s predecessor institution, the New Building Society, was formed following the amalgamation of the Central African Building Society, Commonwealth Century Building Society and First Building Society.
