{"id":75151,"date":"2019-03-04T09:46:06","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T07:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=75151"},"modified":"2019-03-04T09:46:06","modified_gmt":"2019-03-04T07:46:06","slug":"i-am-leader-of-the-poor-everton-chimulirenji","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/03\/04\/i-am-leader-of-the-poor-everton-chimulirenji\/","title":{"rendered":"I am leader of the poor\u2014 Everton Chimulirenji"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Samuel Kalimira:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential running mate, Everton Chimulirenji, has said he is ready to champion the cause of poor people in society.<\/p>\n<p>Chimulirenji said DPP\u2019s torch-bearer, President Peter Mutharika, chose him because he [Mutharika] realised that Chimulirenji would champion the cause of society\u2019s less privileged people, thereby ensuring their inclusion in society.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking in Mzuzu City, where he conducted his first political rally in the Northern Region since his appointment.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cPeople are saying a lot about my political history but they do not know that it is poor people, who are not known or recognised by the society who queue up in majority to vote. Rich people and those who are known in society are always busy and do not vote.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTherefore, I want to tell you that I have come to represent such poor people in the next government setup. Vote for President Peter Mutharika and, in so doing, you will have voted for me, your fellow poor and unknown politician,\u201d<\/em> Chimulirenji said.<\/p>\n<p>DPP Northern Region vice president, Goodall Gondwe, said they had welcomed Chimulirenji as Mutharika\u2019s running mate.<em> \u201cFor us in the Northern Region, you are not only a running mate but, as far as I am concerned, an able vice president of the country.
