Civo United have ignored the domestic transfer fee cap by pegging their defender John Lanjesi at K4.5 million to leave potentials suitors Silver Strikers and Be Forward Wanderers with little negotiation room.<\/p>\n
Civo general secretary, Rashid Ntelela, yesterday confirmed that Lanjesi cannot be sold at a lesser amount.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe two teams wrote us to express interest in the player and it appears the player is assuring both teams of a possible move. As for the transfer cap, that was decided in 2013 and we are going for the present value. It cannot remain at K3 million,\u201d Ntelela said.<\/p>\n
Wanderers\u2019 general secretary, Mike Butao, reserved his comment on Lanjesi, but his Silver counterpart Fred Kalonga confirmed.<\/p>\n
\u201cCivo are charging K4.5 million for Lanjesi. Civo are adamant that theirs is an international player, but we thought they would respect the cap. Wanderers are demanding K2 million for goalkeeper Bester Phiri whereas, Epac want K2 million for left back Dalitso Mwase,\u201d Kalonga explained yesterday.<\/p>\n
Azam Tigers were arguably the first team to defy the cap when they sold winger Isaac Kaliyati at K4 million to Wanderers, thereby raising questions on the relevance of the agreement all Super League clubs signed in 2013 at the Chiwembe Technical and Development Centre.<\/p>\n
Fam facility and transfer matching system manager, Casper Jangale, said the cap issue was simply a gentlemen\u2019s agreement among the clubs to protect most clubs that are struggling financially.<\/p>\n
