{"id":74839,"date":"2019-02-25T10:13:31","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T08:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=74839"},"modified":"2019-02-25T10:13:31","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T08:13:31","slug":"fam-speaks-on-female-coaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/02\/25\/fam-speaks-on-female-coaches\/","title":{"rendered":"Fam speaks on female coaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Mabvuto <strong><em>Kambuwe: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/john-kaputa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-69285\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/john-kaputa-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/john-kaputa-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/john-kaputa-278x202.jpg 278w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/john-kaputa.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has said it is not automatic that a female will be appointed for the post of Malawi women\u2019s football national team head coach.<\/p>\n<p>The team is expected to begin preparations for a 2020 Olympic Games qualifier against Mozambique in April.<\/p>\n<p>There is no requirement for associations to specifically appoint women as head coaches for their women\u2019s national football teams but Council of Southern African Football Associations encourages them to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Malawi has few qualified <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/she-flames-coaches-contracts-expire\/\">female coaches<\/a>\u2014Maggie Chombo-Sadik, Carol Phiri and Karren Chauya being the prominent ones.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi will face Mozambique in the first week of April but the She- Flames have no coaches following the expiry of coach Chombo-Sadik and her technical panel\u2019s contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Fam\u2019s technical sub-committee met last week and proposed new names of technical personnel for the team.<\/p>\n<p>While keeping a tight lid on names of the proposed coaches, Fam Vice President James Mwenda said the association is not restricted to the country\u2019s few female coaches.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThere are no restrictions that we appoint female coaches only for the national women\u2019s football team. We are free to appoint male coaches as well but we are encouraged to employ female head coaches. It is pleasing that we have trained several female coaches who help at national team level and we will continue to promote them,\u201d<\/em> Mwenda said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Reports suggest that Chombo-Sadik might not be retained, with a male coach set to succeed her.<\/p>\n<p>Fam Technical Director, John Kaputa, said names of new technical panel members would be released after approval from relevant stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>Under Chombo-Sadik, Malawi registered a single 2-0 victory over Madagascar but lost by a similar margin to Botswana before a humiliating 6-0 defeat to South Africa at the 2018 Cosafa Women\u2019s Championship in Port Elizabeth.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, National Women\u2019s Football Association has announced plans to organise a tournament aimed at identifying talent for the team.<\/p>\n<p>The association\u2019s chairperson, Severia Chalira, said dates for the exercise would be announced soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mabvuto Kambuwe: Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has said it is not automatic that a female will be appointed for the post of Malawi women\u2019s football national team head coach.
