Capital City giants Silver Strikers may have struggled to put their house in order for the new season but that has not stopped them from dreaming in colour.<\/p>\n

Silver have had an off-season period to forget as squabbles negatively affected their preparations for the new season.<\/p>\n

Developments at the club led to the resignation of several top officials, including board of trustees chairperson Kelvin Mmangisa.<\/p>\n

A new executive committee was put in place early this week and during their first meeting, members agreed to ask the coaches to win all competitions on offer in the 2019 season.<\/p>\n

Young Chimodzi heads the Central Bankers\u2019 technical panel, which also has Lovemore Fazili and Peter Mgangira.<\/p>\n

The new committee is expected to meet the technical panel on Monday.<\/p>\n

Silver\u2019s new Chairperson, Peter \u00a0Chando, said their sponsors have asked them to mount a serious challenge on all fronts in the 2019 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have set an ambitious target of winning every game. We know it will not be easy but we are challenging the technical panel to give us names of the players they want and we will try to support them. We do not want excuses.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are the best sponsored team in the country, so we should be sweeping all the trophies on offer. The target is not only for coaches but also for us. If we fail to deliver, we will be fired as well,\u201d<\/em> Chando said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The new committee has set the TNM Super League title as a priority target having gone five years without winning it.<\/p>\n

Apart from the league, there is also the Fisd Challenge, Calsberg and Airtel Top 8 cups.<\/p>\n

When contacted Friday, Chimodzi said he would comment after the meeting but said he was happy with the team\u2019s preparations ahead of the new season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first week of training has been excellent and the players are slowly improving,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Last season, Silver failed to win even a single trophy having lost 3-2 in the Fisd Cup final to Be Forward Wanderers.<\/p>\n

Former Silver coach Thom Mkorongo urged the team to prepare well ahead of the 2019 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the past three years, Silver\u2019s major problem has been lack of experience. They start the league on a high but lose steam in the second round. So they should do their home work properly,\u201d<\/em> Mkorongo said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Silver, who are sponsored by the Reserve Bank of Malawi, took part in the Caf Confederation Cup but exited in the preliminary round having lost 4-3 on post-match penalties to ASC of Gabon.<\/p>\n

Silver regrouped on Tuesday after being quiet on the transfer market unlike their Blantyre rivals Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets who have roped in several high profile stars.<\/p>\n

But the Bankers have several new players who could join such as former Nyasa Big Bullets and Wanderers striker Mohamed Sulumba.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
