So, those countries would like to see what Malawi is doing and also benchmark because last year\u2019s function was rated highly despite being our first event,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He also said, being the second edition, the council has made improvements so as to add pomp and colour<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have also lined up several performances to spice up the event. Patience Namadingo and Lulu [musicians] will also entertain the audience,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mereka said the awards are designed to encourage athletes and administrators to aim for excellence.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe launched these awards as the summit of sport development in the country.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs we reward athletes, administrators and associations, this will actually motivate them to put more effort in sport. Even those who won\u2019t make it will actually work hard to be at the podium next time,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Top assistant referee Bernadetter Kwimbira Nzika emerged the overall winner of the inaugural awards last year.<\/p>\n<p>The awards will recognise junior female sportsperson, junior male sportsperson, sports administrator, non-citizen, national team, sport woman of the year, sportsman, coach, referee and district of the year, among other categories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mphatso Malidadi: Malawi National Council of Sports has disclosed that counterparts from Southern African countries are set to attend the second edition of Malawi Sport Awards.
