{"id":74404,"date":"2019-02-14T03:41:25","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T01:41:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=74404"},"modified":"2019-02-14T03:41:25","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T01:41:25","slug":"french-embassy-commits-support-to-maison-de-la-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/02\/14\/french-embassy-commits-support-to-maison-de-la-france\/","title":{"rendered":"French Embassy commits support to Maison de la France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Sam Banda Jnr: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Embassy of France in Zimbabwe, which is also responsible for Malawi, has committed its support to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourmag.com\/Maison-de-la-France-et-ODIT-France-deviennent-Atout-France_a32281.html\">Maison de la France<\/a> and Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre which continues to give a platform to artists in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Embassy of France in Zimbabwe and Malawi Deputy Head of Mission, Lionel Canny, said this on Tuesday during a special event held at JCC.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, Embassy of France in Zimbabwe and Malawi also renewed Luc Deschamps\u2019 honorary consul position for the next five years and that this has been granted by the French President, Emmanuel Macron.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe want to help Maison de la France which has been doing great work as regards promoting the French language in the country. You may recall we used to have the French Cultural Centre which had a lot of influence but due to other challenges it closed,\u201d<\/em> Canny said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He, however, said Maison de la France and JCC, led by Deschamps, have been achieving the same goal including teaching the French language.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe want to enhance Maison de la France and, among others, we will be sending teachers to France to improve teaching of French. We want to provide more money to develop the events taking place at JCC,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Canny said, as an office responsible for Zimbabwe and Malawi, they are geared to promote Malawian artists and are set to bring in cultural exchange programmes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThrough this, we want to develop skills and there are many options we are working out,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The event was spiced up by performances from Agorosso and Jacaranda School for Orphans students.<\/p>\n<p>And, today, JCC, hosts the Sounds of Malawi Acoustic session featuring veteran star Snowden Ibu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sam Banda Jnr: Embassy of France in Zimbabwe, which is also responsible for Malawi, has committed its support to Maison de la France and Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre which continues to give a platform to artists in the country.
