{"id":74046,"date":"2019-02-05T10:47:32","date_gmt":"2019-02-05T08:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=74046"},"modified":"2019-02-05T10:47:32","modified_gmt":"2019-02-05T08:47:32","slug":"united-nations-sets-246-million-for-2019-development-assistance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/02\/05\/united-nations-sets-246-million-for-2019-development-assistance\/","title":{"rendered":"United Nations sets $246 million for 2019 development assistance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Faith Kamtambe: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of implementing the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), the United Nations (UN) has set aside $246 million to be used in implementing development projects in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In September last year, Malawi signed the new UNDAF with the UN that will be used as a collective vision and response of the UN system to Malawi\u2019s national development priorities.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement, which will run from this year to 2023, has a resource envelope of $1,088,348,001, of which $346,830,601 is expected to be available while $741,517,400 will be mobilized.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the signing ceremony in Lilongwe on Monday, UN Resident Coordinator Maria Jose Torres, said the UNDAF requires modalities for its implementation on a yearly basis.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe work-plans will enhance coordination and coherence in the work of the UN system in Malawi in supporting the government of Malawi to successfully implement its development priorities in the MGDS [Malawi Growth and Development Strategy] III,\u2019\u2019<\/em> she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Chief Secretary to the Government, Lloyd Muhara, said, considering that the government has localized Sustainable Development Goals into the national development strategy, the implementation of the work-plans would significantly contribute to the achievement of development aspirations of Malawians.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe three pillars are well aligned to our development objectives as outlined in the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS) III,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The framework succeeds the UNDAF, which run from 2012 to 2016 and was extended for two more years to cover 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Faith Kamtambe: As part of implementing the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), the United Nations (UN) has set aside $246 million to be used in implementing development projects in the country.
