{"id":73803,"date":"2019-01-30T03:49:43","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T01:49:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=73803"},"modified":"2019-01-30T03:49:43","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T01:49:43","slug":"american-foundation-commits-to-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/01\/30\/american-foundation-commits-to-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"American foundation commits to charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Jameson Chauluka: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>American football star, Jack Brewer, has reaffirmed his commitment to helping underprivileged people in Malawi through the partnership of Jack Brewer Foundation and Joyce Banda Foundation (JBF) International.<\/p>\n<p>Brewer made the commitment in Domasi, Zomba District, where he went to celebrate his 40th birthday with underprivileged learners at Msigalira Free Primary School, which is under JBF International.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThese have been amazing 12 years or so, helping the underprivileged people here in Malawi together with [former] president [Joyce] Banda. She is my second mother and role model who helped me find a purpose in life. Together, we have been working in agriculture, education, women\u2019s health, especially in the fight against cervical cancer, and more,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Brewer first came to Malawi around 2006, when Banda was Foreign Affairs minister, and pledged to join JBF in helping less privileged people.<\/p>\n<p>For the past 13 years, Brewer, in partnership with JBF has been implementing projects in girls\u2019 education, agriculture and women\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>Brewer\u2014who was born on January 8 1979\u2014 said, being an African American, he has fulfilled his need to connect with his roots.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cFor us men and women of colour, after the slave trade, we just live in America without knowing our roots but my coming to Africa, particularly here in Malawi, has fulfilled that desire in me to connect with my ancestors,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Edith Akridge of JBF International thanked Jack Brewer Foundation, saying, together, they have reached countless people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jameson Chauluka: American football star, Jack Brewer, has reaffirmed his commitment to helping underprivileged people in Malawi through the partnership of Jack Brewer Foundation and Joyce Banda Foundation (JBF) International.
