{"id":73751,"date":"2019-01-29T03:30:34","date_gmt":"2019-01-29T01:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=73751"},"modified":"2019-01-29T03:30:34","modified_gmt":"2019-01-29T01:30:34","slug":"12-have-cases-to-answer-in-macdonald-masambuka-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/01\/29\/12-have-cases-to-answer-in-macdonald-masambuka-case\/","title":{"rendered":"12 have cases to answer in MacDonald Masambuka case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Jarson Malowa, Contributor: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73755\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73755\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/MacDonald-Masambuka-accused-persons.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73755\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/MacDonald-Masambuka-accused-persons-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/MacDonald-Masambuka-accused-persons-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/MacDonald-Masambuka-accused-persons.jpg 523w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73755\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">HAVE CASES TO ANSWER\u2014Some of the accused persons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The High Court in Zomba has ruled that all 12 accused persons have cases to answer in the murder of a person with albinism, MacDonald Masambuka, last year in Machinga District.<\/p>\n<p>Masambuka (22) went missing on March 8 2018 and his body was found with some body parts missing a few weeks later.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects include Catholic priest Fr Thomas Muhosha, police officer Chikondi Chileka and clinician Lumbani Kamanga.<\/p>\n<p>The other accused persons are Maxwell Matchina Sosola, Dickson Manesi Ndengu, Bashir Lilongwe, Alfred Yohane, Master Mphulanya Injesi, Innocent Wallace, Mussa Lilongwe, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/macdonald-masambukas-brother-arrested-over-murder\/\">Cassim White Masambuka<\/a> and Lackness Magombo.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering her ruling, High Court Judge Zione Ntaba said the defence\u2019s reasons for a no-case-to answer application did not satisfy the court.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe court, however, finds the State\u2019s reasoning as valid for cases to answer in all the seven counts among all the 12 accused persons in this murder case,\u201d<\/em> Ntaba said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lawyer representing some of the suspects, Masauko Chankakala, who is Legal Aid Bureau Director, said he had nothing much to say on the matter.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cNow that the accused persons have cases to answer, we are going to take the next step by working on how we will defend the accused persons,\u201d<\/em> Chankakala said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, the court has adjourned from the defence from March 5 to 8 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jarson Malowa, Contributor: The High Court in Zomba has ruled that all 12 accused persons have cases to answer in the murder of a person with albinism, MacDonald Masambuka, last year in Machinga District.
