{"id":73703,"date":"2019-01-28T03:49:10","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T01:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=73703"},"modified":"2019-01-28T03:49:10","modified_gmt":"2019-01-28T01:49:10","slug":"mbs-issues-recall-order-for-revin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/01\/28\/mbs-issues-recall-order-for-revin\/","title":{"rendered":"MBS issues recall order for Revin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Richard Chirombo: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73412\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73412\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/revin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73412\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/revin-300x280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/revin-300x280.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/revin.jpg 391w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73412\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Revin on display<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has issued a recall order for Revin Tangawizi drink and Revin Natural Power SX High Energy drink on health grounds.<\/p>\n<p>MBS acting Director General Willy Muyila and Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board (PMPB) acting Registrar Mphatso Kawaye made the announcement on Friday during a press briefing held in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>MBS monitors the quality of food and non-food products while PMPB monitors the quality of medicine.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<em>The general public is hereby informed that, following recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/revin-under-scrutiny\/\">safety reports<\/a> from Uganda and Zambia associated with consumption of Revin drinks, and analytical tests undertaken by the MBS and PMPB, the following Revin brands have been banned from importation and supply into Malawi with immediate effect: Revin Tangawizi drink; and Revin Natural Power SX High Energy drink.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe analytical tests conducted by MBS and the National Drug Quality Control Laboratory of the PMPB indicate that these Revin drinks are adulterated with Sildenafil citrate, an active pharmaceutical ingredient that is classified as Prescription Only Medicine in the Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Regulations (40A of 1998),\u201d<\/em> reads a statement which MBS and PMPB released on Friday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Muyila said, in the wake of recent developments, this means a recall order has been issued.<\/p>\n<p>Under terms of the order, importers of the products\u2014 Revin (Mw) Limited and Gatbro International Limited\u2014 have been ordered to immediately recall all products of the mentioned brands, declare quantities of the brands that were imported into the country and prescribe to MBS and PMPB disposal arrangements for the recalled products, including stock not supplied onto the market, among other measures.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On his part, Kawaye said the products are dangerous to consumers because Sildenafil citrate <em>\u201ccan only be dispersed to a client upon production of a valid prescription by a certified medical practitioner\u201d.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said this is so because, in extreme cases, it can cause heart attacks and respiratory depression<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Richard Chirombo: Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has issued a recall order for Revin Tangawizi drink and Revin Natural Power SX High Energy drink on health grounds.
