Joseph Tembo and Mtukudzi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Soldier Lucius Banda and Joseph Tembo joined the list of acts who have produced tribute songs for Zimbabwean legendary musician, who died on January 23 2019 at Avenues Clinic in Harare.<\/p>\n

Having inspired several musicians including in the country, Mtukudzi\u2019s death has dealt a very big blow to the creative industry.<\/p>\n

Mtukudzi, who died<\/a> on the same day another legendary musician Hugh Masekela<\/a> passed on last year, was laid to rest Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a great teacher; he was very humble and I learnt a lot from him,\u201d<\/em> mourned Tembo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The musician and producer remembered the times he rubbed shoulders with Mtukudzi during his performances in the country.<\/p>\n

Tembo sings of the beauty of Tuku\u2019s music in the song.<\/p>\n

Lucius also mourns Tuku and talks about the beauty of his music.<\/p>\n

\u201cOliver Mtukudzi was no ordinary musician. He inspired a lot of musicians and I am one of them. This is why I thought of doing a tribute song,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Friday, The Herald <\/em>reported that President Emerson Mnangagwa had declared Mtukudzi a national hero, becoming Zimbabwe\u2019s first musician to be accorded such status.<\/p>\n

Mnangagwa, who made the announcement Thursday, also said the government would cover all funeral expenses.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the burial Sunday, the National Arts Council in conjunct ion with other stakeholders organised a concert in honour of the national hero which was held at National Sports Stadium.<\/p>\n

Mtukudzi was one of the most celebrated musicians and, according to CNN, the Zimbabwe arts regulating body wrote to the President to seek the status for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe deserves the status because of his hard work and leadership in the sector. He was a hero on his own and a hero of the people. His works deserve great honour,\u201d<\/em> Nicholas Moyo, head of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, said in an interview with The Citizen <\/em>newspaper.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Veteran promoter Jai Banda, popularly known as Mr Entertainer, said on Friday up and coming musicians need to persevere, be patient and also humble themselves to excel in the industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cOliver Mtukudzi was very humble and was passionate about music. That is why he worked very hard and it took him time to make a name,\u201d<\/em> Mr Entertainer, said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Born into a musical family, Mtukudzi\u2019s sound was distinct and his lyrics inspiring.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere I come from, you don\u2019t get to sing a song if you have nothing to say,\u201d<\/em> he said in a 2013 interview with CNN.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The BBC reported yesterday that mourners travelled across Zimbabwe to attend the burial.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, his coffin was taken in a funeral procession through the national stadium.<\/p>\n

It was then transported by helicopter to his home village, north of Harare.<\/p>\n

The prolific artist made 67 albums and created his own Afro-jazz sound known as Tuku Music.<\/p>\n
