AWARD-WINNING ARTIST \u2014AKA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Organisers of the inaugural Nyasa Music Festival continue to announce more acts set to perform at the three-day event in April, the latest being South Africa\u2019s AKA<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The South African artist was nominated in the 2018 Urban Music People (UMP) Best Sadc International Act category.<\/p>\n

\u201cJiggy Jiggy Heavy Heavy, it\u2019s with great pleasure we introduce to you our next international performer coming straight outta South Africa, the \u2018Fela in Versace\u2019 the supa mega himself Akaworldwide. You don\u2019t want to miss this event,\u201d<\/em> the organisers said on the Facebook page Wednesday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One of the members of the organising team, James Makunje, said Wednesday the Nyasa Music Festival is the subsidiary of Nyasa Music Awards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe festival is separate from the awards. We are on the ground making sure that everything is in its proper place. We have a big lineup and people should just be on our Facebook page because we will continue to announce the acts one by one,\u201d<\/em> Makunje said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The festival is set to take place from 19 to April 21 2019.<\/p>\n

And Wednesday, the organisers also announced that R and B sensation Kell Kay would be part of the lineup.<\/p>\n

With people curious to know the venue of the festival the organisers said on the Facebook page yesterday that the venue announcement would be made on February 1.<\/p>\n

He said they were excited to have AKA, who is one of the top artists.<\/p>\n

AKA, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was born on January 28 1988.<\/p>\n

The rapper, record producer, songwriter and businessman has achieved a lot and, in 2011, his song \u2018Victory Lap\u2019 won Channel O\u2019s Most Gifted Hip-Hop Video at the 7th annual Channel O Music Video Awards.<\/p>\n

At the 18th South African Music Awards, AKA was awarded Male Artist of the Year and Best Street Urban Music Album.<\/p>\n

This will not be the first time for the artist to perform in the country.<\/p>\n

Makunje said they are growing their brand as they take up a role of uplifting the creative industry in the country and that the festival is part of their growth.<\/p>\n

He said they will first start with the festival before the awards, which will be hosted later in the year.<\/p>\n

The awards were inaugurated two years ago at Comesa Hall in Blantyre and are held in May.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not holding the awards in May as has been the case and this is because of the festival we are holding in April. But we just want to inform people that the awards will be there but later on in the year,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Apart from AKA, some of the artists who have been listed on the festival\u2019s menu are DJ Kaygee and Busiswa from South Africa, Faith Mussa, Gwamba, Fredokiss and DJ Nathan Tunes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
