{"id":73406,"date":"2019-01-20T05:51:02","date_gmt":"2019-01-20T03:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=73406"},"modified":"2019-01-20T05:51:02","modified_gmt":"2019-01-20T03:51:02","slug":"village-head-4-men-arrested-for-possessing-human-bones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/01\/20\/village-head-4-men-arrested-for-possessing-human-bones\/","title":{"rendered":"Village head, 4 men arrested for possessing human bones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By <strong>Patrick Ndawala, <\/strong>(Mana):<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73409\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73409\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Davie-silumba.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73409\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Davie-silumba-300x246.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Davie-silumba-300x246.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Davie-silumba.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73409\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Davie Silumba<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Police in Liwonde are keeping in custody five men including a Group Village Headman (GVH) for allegedly being found with human bones.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the arrests on Friday, Machinga Police Station public relations officer, Constable Davie Silumba identified the men as GVH Dyton Makwesela, 50, Lamilo Mambo, 35, King Wiskies Tuwaliki Galagate, 38, Witman Kadam\u2019manja, 29, and Mussa Sanuwedi Kamba, 30.<\/p>\n<p>Silumba said on 3rd January, 2019, police were tipped off that some men were selling human bones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe police launched investigations and managed to arrest Makwesela and Mambo on 7th January, 2019 at Nkasaulo Village along Bakili Muluzi Highway after they were found with 16 human bones,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sulumba said the suspects were taken to Liwonde Police Station where they revealed that they were not alone in the deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis led to the arrest of the other three suspects on 8th January, 2019. But one of the suspects is still at large,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sulumba said the suspects confessed to have dug out two graves, one at Nantunga Village and the other at Chilala Village in the area of Paramount Chief Kawinga.<\/p>\n<p>He said a visit to the graves showed that the men exhumed the body of Abiti Katungwe Chitaile who died of leprosy and laid to rest in 1970.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the second scene, the suspect failed to locate the grave where some of the bones were exhumed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the suspects have since been charged with offences of possessing human tissues, trespassing burial place, unlawful exhumation of human corpse and causing extraction of human tissues,\u201d Sulumba said.<\/p>\n<p>He said all the suspects have since been remanded to Domasi Prison as police are still investigating the case.<\/p>\n<p>Makwesela comes from Jafali Village, Mambo from Kamkwamba Village, Tuwaliki from Chipamba Village, Kadam\u2019manja from Kamala Village and Sanuwedi from Chikaonda Village in the area of Paramount Chief Kawinga in Machinga District. <strong>\u2014Mana<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Ndawala, (Mana): Police in Liwonde are keeping in custody five men including a Group Village Headman (GVH) for allegedly being found with human bones.
