{"id":73045,"date":"2019-01-10T10:40:27","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T08:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=73045"},"modified":"2019-01-10T10:40:27","modified_gmt":"2019-01-10T08:40:27","slug":"saulos-chilimas-security-personnel-obtain-injunction-against-inspector-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/01\/10\/saulos-chilimas-security-personnel-obtain-injunction-against-inspector-general\/","title":{"rendered":"Saulos Chilima\u2019s security personnel obtain injunction against Inspector General"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Emmanuel Chirwa &amp; Jameson Chauluka:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73046\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73046\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bright-theu.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73046\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bright-theu-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bright-theu-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bright-theu-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bright-theu-32x32.jpg 32w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bright-theu.jpg 364w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73046\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">THEY ARE PAYING COLLATERAL DAMAGE \u2014Theu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Forty police officers on Tuesday obtained a court injunction against the Inspector General (IG) of Police\u2019s summon for a disciplinary hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The police officers, who were transferred from the office of Vice President Saulos Chilima to other duty stations, were summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee Wednesday on allegations of absconding duties.<\/p>\n<p>The injunction, which <em>The Daily Times <\/em>has seen, says the disciplinary hearing has been stayed until further determination.<\/p>\n<p>National police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, has declined to comment on the development saying it is a court case.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThis is a court matter so we are not commenting,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The officers were transferred from the Office of the Vice President to other duty stations, a move which Chilima said was meant to weaken his security detail.<\/p>\n<p>Chilima sought a court order stopping the move and the officers have not gone to their reassigned duty stations, a development which the service says is tantamount to abscondment of duties.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer representing the officers, Bright Theu, confirmed the development, saying the officers believe they did not abscond from work as the Malawi Police Service alleges.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe Vice President commenced a second judicial review and the court suspended the postings. In breach of the order suspending the postings, on November 11 2018, the Inspector General, through the Director of Human Resource Management, wrote another wire message to all the concerned officers that the posting still stands and they had to report to the duty stations indicated.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe filed for contempt of court order against the IG and it is waiting date of hearing.
