{"id":72946,"date":"2019-01-08T09:32:48","date_gmt":"2019-01-08T07:32:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=72946"},"modified":"2019-01-08T09:32:48","modified_gmt":"2019-01-08T07:32:48","slug":"malawi-earmarked-for-germany-funded-agriculture-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/01\/08\/malawi-earmarked-for-germany-funded-agriculture-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi earmarked for Germany-funded agriculture centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Rebecca Chimjeka:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/emmanuel-fabiano.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-54664\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/emmanuel-fabiano-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/emmanuel-fabiano-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/emmanuel-fabiano-768x342.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/emmanuel-fabiano.jpg 820w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Visiting Germany Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd M\u00fcller, has said his country has selected Malawi as one of the countries earmarked for establishment of an agriculture innovation centre.<\/p>\n<p>Experts from Germany will support small-scale farmers to produce enough food for export at the centre.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking at a reception which Germany Ambassador to Malawi, J\u00fcrgen Borsch, organised at his residence in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00fcller said the centre is well positioned to help farmers establish cooperatives that will enable them to grow enough food for family use as well as export.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI have brought good news to Malawians from my government; Malawi is one of the three countries where my government would establish an agriculture innovation centre where experts from Germany will support small-scale farmers to produce enough food for export,\u201d<\/em> M\u00fcller said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said the centre would also help the country to have stabilised prices of commodities including staple food.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00fcller, in the country for a three-day visit, said he was impressed with how the government was promoting the restoration of forests.<\/p>\n<p>He said his visit highlights the friendly relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>At the reception, he had discussions with Cabinet ministers including Minister of Education, Bright Msaka, Minister of Health Atupele Muluzi, Minister of Industry and Trade Francis Kasaila and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emanuel Fabiano.<\/p>\n<p>Fabiano said the government was happy with the visit, further welcoming news about establishment of the centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Rebecca Chimjeka: Visiting Germany Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd M\u00fcller, has said his country has selected Malawi as one of the countries earmarked for establishment of an agriculture innovation centre.
