Dikamawoko Arts has said it needs close to K6 million for transport to travel to Egypt to attend a festival next year.<\/p>\n

Dikamawoko Arts Director, Tawonga Nkhonjera, said Sunday they plan to hold some fundraising events but called on well-wishers for support.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an opportunity for Dikamawoko Arts to represent the country and give a chance to people with different challenges to show their talents. In most cases, people with challenges such as albinism are sidelined but they need to be given a chance,\u201d<\/em> Nkhonjera said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dikamawoko Arts has been invited<\/a> to perform at the 3rd edition of Awladna International Forum for Arts of the Gifted to take place from February 15 to 22, 2019.<\/p>\n

The event is held under the patronage of President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and in cooperation with the ministries of Social Solidarity, Youth and Sports, Tourism, Culture, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs and the Ministry of Antiquities.<\/p>\n

The organisers have invited 10 members to the forum to participate in the performances section.<\/p>\n

However, the organisers have said that the forum will provide full accommodation for the esteemed group throughout the forum\u2019s period.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will hold a few strategised performances for interested stakeholders in cultural exchanges, in travel, in tourism, in entrepreneurship and trade plus art. We look for partners in social inclusion of people with special needs and that is the aim of the festival,\u201d<\/em> Nkhonjera said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He said the festival is all about promotion of arts among gifted but socially marginalised people.<\/p>\n

He said Dikamawoko Arts has two members with albinism and one with dyslexia.<\/p>\n

Nkhonjera said they work with teenagers with special needs from Arman\u2019s Home, some with downs syndrome and others with autism.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe practice art therapy by engaging the teens in assorted artistic activities such as photography, dance, videography, singing and deejaying,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dikamawoko Arts has been holding afternoon performances giving people a treat by offering different traditional dances.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still doing that and hope to continue and using them to raise funds, but we need support and as I said, having made calculations, the figure comes up to K6 million,\u201d<\/em> Nkhonjera said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
