So as a church, we decided to come and help,” said Matoga.

He also observed that several organisations, companies and other well wishers have been assisting flood victims with different items but there was need for the country to look into this issue seriously and solve it.

“Of course we need to help people with shelter, food and other necessities but then we need to solve this flood problem. This is what needs to be looked at critically, otherwise this problem has been there for years,” said Matoga.

He said his Church is ready to help towards solving the perennial problem.

“We surely need to find a solution and that entails team work among stakeholders. Moving people to other areas away from their homes is not a solution,” said Matoga.

He insisted that the challenge of floods can be managed.

“For instance Tizola is close to Illovo Sugar Company but the company is not affected by the floods? It is because they devised a system and that system can also be used to stop the floods here,” he said.

Group Village Headman Tizola II hailed the church for the donation saying although the floods happened way back, some people were still in need of help.

“People lost a lot of things due to floods, others have gone back to their homes but some are still living in tents,” he said.

The traditional leader agreed with Bishop Matoga’s sentiments that a solution needs to be found.

“We can’t be depending on donations. Our friends, especially those living upland, must stop cutting down trees because this is what is affecting us here,” he said.

Apart from donating items, Faith of God Church also took time out to preach the word of God to the people.

Faith of God Church on Saturday donated several items worth about K1 million to flood victims at Tizola II Village in Chikwawa district.
