{"id":72198,"date":"2018-11-28T09:57:04","date_gmt":"2018-11-28T07:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=72198"},"modified":"2018-11-28T09:57:04","modified_gmt":"2018-11-28T07:57:04","slug":"malawi-embraces-tele-medicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/11\/28\/malawi-embraces-tele-medicine\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi embraces tele-medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Sharon Jumbe:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72202\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72202\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/medical-practitioners.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-72202\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/medical-practitioners-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/medical-practitioners-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/medical-practitioners-768x342.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/medical-practitioners.jpg 820w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72202\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">EAGER\u2014 Medical practitioners<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Delivery of public health services in the country is set to improve due to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/brandfeatures\/venture-capital\/article?id=4401\">telemedicine<\/a> system of communication that Dream Community of Sant\u2019Egidio has launched.<\/p>\n<p>The system of interaction between local and international doctors allows medical practitioners to share information on prognosis and diagnosis of diseases, thereby ensuring that patients are treated on time.<\/p>\n<p>This was announced at a workshop which Dream Community and Global Health Telemedicine conducted in Blantyre Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Africa Dream Coordinator, Paola Germano, said telemedicine would improve the manner in which doctors in the country provide medical care and services.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cClinicians will be able to contact doctors in Europe through messages and online and offline means of communication if they are unfamiliar with a disease,\u201d<\/em> Germano said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She added that the programme would fill the knowledge gap, in terms of treatment, in the health sector.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of Health Chief Director, Ben Chisamile, commended Dream Community for its efforts in improving the provision of healthcare service delivery to patients in the country.<\/p>\n<p>One of the participants, Gift Kaunda of Ndirande Health Centre in Blantyre, said the programme is a panacea to delays that clog the process of treating patients in Malawi.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cOur hospitals lack resources when diagnosis and treatment are considered and, as such, this programme is timely as it will facilitate communication between doctors.
