President Peter Mutharika said his Cabinet cannot have a member who works against government arguing one cannot sit on a Cabinet if they are not part of government\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n

Mutharika made the remarks Friday when he was swearing in two newly Cabinet ministers.<\/p>\n

The remarks come after Mutharika has been criticised<\/a> by some Civil Society Organisation (CSO\u2019s) for omitting Vice President Saulos Chilima on the list of his cabinet.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking in a Cabinet also demands discipline and collective responsibility. You cannot sit on Cabinet if you are not part of the agenda. Every government has a policy agenda and every Cabinet member must subscribe to the policy of government. We cannot have a Cabinet member who works against government. You are not part of my policy agenda, you are not part of my government, that\u2019s what is going to be,\u201d<\/em> he said<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

APM on November 7, appointed Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development Everton Chimulirenji, Deputy Minister of Defence Amosi Mailosi, Deputy Minister of Homeland Security Charles Mchacha and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Welani Chilenga.<\/p>\n

Mutharika said he expects the new Cabinet members to perform in align with the policies and development agenda of his government.<\/p>\n

He urged the ministers to desist from corrupt activities saying Malawi is now moving towards eradicating corruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expect everyone to leave out to expectation of the people. And I believe they will serve Malawians with patriotism and spirit of integrity and hard work. In particular, I will like to urge you to protect government resources and foster transparency and accountability,\u201d<\/em> he said<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Deputy Minister of Homeland Security Mchancha in an interview said he is delighted to have been chosen to work as a Cabinet minister promising to promote peace in the country.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Mchacha, who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the South, also brought criticism from different stakeholders including Malawi Congress Party who have accused Mutharika of rewarding him of his derogatory remarks against women.<\/p>\n

But Mchacha remained adamant saying his remarks targeted women following United Transformation Movement who he said have been attacking Mutharika.<\/p>\n
