Lack of vehicles has forced Rumphi District Council to borrow the only truck at the district hospital to be used in the Decent and Affordable Housing Subsidy Programme.<\/p>\n
The development has since paralysed operations at the health facility.<\/p>\n
Rumphi District Commissioner Lusizi Nhlane yesterday said the council\u2019s two trucks break down frequently and the cost of repairing them is high.<\/p>\n
He was speaking when Minister of Lands Housing and Urban Development Paul Chibingu toured two sites where the programme is being implemented.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no lorry to transport the materials. The council has two vehicles and they are old. Their year of make is 2006. They breakdown frequently. In government a vehicle can be used for five years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe used to borrow from the hospital but that vehicle does other duties,\u201d said Nhlane, adding that by borrowing the truck, the programme was choking hospital operations.<\/p>\n
Rumphi has earmarked 320 people to benefit from the Decent and Affordable Housing Subsidy Programme.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Chibingu said there were enemies of the programme who are discouraging suppliers from delivering materials because of delayed payments.<\/p>\n
