{"id":71278,"date":"2018-11-05T09:49:29","date_gmt":"2018-11-05T07:49:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=71278"},"modified":"2018-11-05T09:49:29","modified_gmt":"2018-11-05T07:49:29","slug":"indias-veep-visits-malawi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/11\/05\/indias-veep-visits-malawi\/","title":{"rendered":"India\u2019s Veep visits Malawi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Audrey Kapalamula: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vice President of the Republic of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, is in the country for a two-day official visit.<\/p>\n<p>He also visited Botswana and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>Venkaiah Naidu arrived Sunday through Kamuzu International Airport alongside other Indian government officials.<\/p>\n<p>He was welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emmanuel Fabiano.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Rejoice Shumba, said Venkaiah Naidu would meet President Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace.<\/p>\n<p>She said Venkaiah Naidu would also meet members of the Indian Community in Malawi, attend Malawi- India bilateral meetings, sign memoranda of understanding, and unveil plaques for some projects as well as present artificial limbs to five Malawian beneficiaries at Bingu International Conference Centre.<\/p>\n<p>His visit comes at a time some citizens in the country have protested the erection of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/mahatma-gandhi-statue-erection-stops\/\">Mahatma Ghandhi<\/a> statue in Blantyre, arguing that he did not contribute to the development of Malawi to deserve a statue erected in his honour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Audrey Kapalamula: Vice President of the Republic of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, is in the country for a two-day official visit.
