{"id":71258,"date":"2018-11-05T09:00:10","date_gmt":"2018-11-05T07:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=71258"},"modified":"2018-11-05T09:00:10","modified_gmt":"2018-11-05T07:00:10","slug":"tigresses-in-double-joy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/11\/05\/tigresses-in-double-joy\/","title":{"rendered":"Tigresses in double joy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mphatso Malidadi: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Lauren-Ngwira.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-50698\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Lauren-Ngwira-300x257.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Lauren-Ngwira-300x257.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Lauren-Ngwira-768x658.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Lauren-Ngwira.jpg 810w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Giants Tigresses were on cloud nine after moving to second position in the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League following their 46-36 win over Thunder Queens at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Tiga had earlier heaved a sigh of relief after Southern Region Netball Committee (SRNC) ruled that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/tigresses-to-appeal-lauren-ngwiras-ruling\/\"> Lauren Ngwira<\/a> was eligible to play for them.<\/p>\n<p>The regional committee had overruled an earlier determination by Blantyre and Districts Netball Committee which resulted into the suspension of all games involving Tigresses, pending a final verdict of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Ngwira was barred from returning to Tigresses after completing a controversial six-month loan deal at Team Northumbria in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>However, SRNC Chairperson Judith Chalusa said although Ngwira was cleared to play at Team Northumbria without her local club\u2019s consent, the player belonged to Tigresses.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe found that there was no tangible evidence to prove that Lauren belongs to any other team besides Tigresses,\u201d<\/em> Chalusa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tigresses Coach, Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa, said they have been vindicated on the matter.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cJustice has finally prevailed. We feel as if there was a deliberate effort from the administrators to frustrate us. At some point, it appeared as if our opponents were doing this deliberately to push us out of the title race,\u201d<\/em> Chawinga-Kaluwa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ngwira\u2019s return had an immediate impact on Tigresses\u2019 performance as the team dominated all the four quarters to trounce Thunder Queens.<\/p>\n<p>Tigresses led the first quarter 12-9 before extending the lead to 24- 20 at half time. In the third quarter, Tigresses increased the lead to 37- 28 before wrapping up victory in the last quarter after scoring nine baskets against eight.<\/p>\n<p>This win came after another impressive performance earlier on Saturday,, which saw Tigresses humble Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters 128- 11.<\/p>\n<p>League leaders Kukoma Diamonds also collected full points after a 77-23 triumph over Chilomoni Sisters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mphatso Malidadi: Giants Tigresses were on cloud nine after moving to second position in the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League following their 46-36 win over Thunder Queens at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.
