{"id":71217,"date":"2018-11-03T00:48:03","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T22:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=71217"},"modified":"2018-11-03T00:48:03","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T22:48:03","slug":"minister-underscores-educations-role-in-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/11\/03\/minister-underscores-educations-role-in-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister underscores education\u2019s role in development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By <strong>Macdonald Thom:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Minister of Education, Science and Technology Bright Msaka has said education sectors in Africa have to respond to the continent\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n<p>Msaka said the world in future will stand on the bedrock of science, technology and innovation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAfrica\u2019s education systems must, at all levels, mainstream science, technology and innovation in order to harness the continent\u2019s huge natural resources and unlimited potential, to achieve for our continent and our countries the type and the rate of development that will enable Africa to outpace the rest of the world,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He was speaking in Lilongwe yesterday during the opening of a meeting of ministers ahead of the First Extra-ordinary Summit of the Committee of the Heads of State and Government (C10) Championing Education, Science and Technology.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAfrica needs human resources that are imbued with the skills and knowledge necessary for Africa to compete and succeed in a world that has, at times, demonstrated hostility to the continent. It is not so much the policies and plans that will achieve for us the Africa we want,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said Africa will move forward on the shoulders of people who take excellence in performance as a way of life.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe need sons and daughters that have the ability to see around corners, adapt to ever-changing situations and to anticipate the challenges and opportunities of the world tomorrow,\u201d<\/em> Msaka said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The ministers were preparing the groundwork for today\u2019s Summit of Heads of State and Government.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government was constituted to achieve Sustainable Development Goals to advance the implementation of the African Union Agenda 2063 and to promote greater investment in education, science and technology.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The theme of the summit is <em>\u201cEnhancing Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for African Development\u201d.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Macdonald Thom: Minister of Education, Science and Technology Bright Msaka has said education sectors in Africa have to respond to the continent\u2019s needs.
