Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) national executive met on Wednesday at Mponela in Dowa where they discussed several issues including the suspension of Central Region chapter chairperson Farai Chazima Soko.<\/p>\n
Mum President Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango on Thursdday described the meeting as fruitful.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were several issues that we discussed and members were open to bring out any issues. There were also presentation of reports from all the chapters,\u201d said Mhango<\/p>\n
He said the gathering also took time to discuss the Music Malawi (Muma) Awards which received heavy criticism.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was tasked to discuss with the partners Trocadero Consulting and Media Corp to critically look into the awards and change its format, otherwise; people were not happy with the 2014 awards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
With time running out for them to hold the 2015 awards, Mhango admitted they are late but he is hoping that they will work very hard and level the ground.<\/p>\n
Mhango also said that during the meeting they also zeroed in on meetings which some members have been holding privately.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe welcome those meetings but to some extent if we are to move forward it is better that members should learn to talk to the executive on what they feel needs to be improved and share those concerns,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mhango said they also looked at how they will move forward as a union, plan for the activities and that they at the end elected fundraising and discipline committees.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, despite being stopped from attending the meeting, Chazima Soko did not oblige but instead made herself available.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe welcomed her despite stopping her from attending but then the discipline committee will look into the issue and hear from both sides and come up with the recommendations,\u201d said Mhango.<\/p>\n
He said that in the meantime Chazima Soko remains suspended from her chapter.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s Desk Chairperson Martha Mituka also described the meeting as fruitful and that they discussed lots of issues.<\/p>\n
On the issue of Chazima Soko, Mituka said the Central Region chairperson has been asked to write a letter to the executive and copy it to the other relevant authorities involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
