{"id":71142,"date":"2018-11-01T09:39:53","date_gmt":"2018-11-01T07:39:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=71142"},"modified":"2018-11-01T09:39:53","modified_gmt":"2018-11-01T07:39:53","slug":"fashion4change-in-2nd-showdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/11\/01\/fashion4change-in-2nd-showdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Fashion4Change in 2nd showdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Sam Banda Jnr: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/piksy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-30247\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/piksy-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/piksy-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/piksy.jpg 820w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>After a successful debut event last year, which focused on the deforestation theme, Fashion4Change makes a second step this year.<\/p>\n<p>Fashion4Change, organised by Alpha Agency, will be held at Crossroads Hotel in Blantyre on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Director and co-founder Ausa Kamanga said Wednesday they would want to use fashion, which is trending, to help bring about change.<\/p>\n<p>She said last year they received an overwhelming response from the corporate world after focusing on deforestation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are happy to make a second step with Fashion4Change and this time it will be bigger. The first show was like testing the waters and we were given full support. The support we got motivated us to go on and do more,\u201d<\/em> Kamanga said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She said, from deforestation, they are now moving to recycling.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThere are things people throw away thinking they are useless but they can be used to produce different items. So we are focusing on this, where we would want to produce bags from recycled materials and donate the bags to Mbayani Primary School in Blantyre,\u201d<\/em> Kamanga said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She then called for support from the corporate world for them to do better with Fashion4Change.<\/p>\n<p>Kamanga also maintained that this is not a one-off thing but an annual event which is there not only to provide entertainment but to help develop the country.<\/p>\n<p>Kamanga said, apart from giving a chance to models and designers to shine on the day, Fashion4Change will also offer a chance to the audience to enjoy performances of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/more-experience-for-patience-namadingo-in-europe\/\">Patience<\/a> Namadingo and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/piksy-sets-up-prison-show\/\">Piksy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The two acts will be performing at Fashion4Change barely a week after starring at Sand Music Festival in Salima.<\/p>\n<p>Kamanga said they have 16 models from Malawi who will take part in this year\u2019s Fashion4Change and six international models.<\/p>\n<p>She also revealed that six international designers from Namibia, South Africa, Botswana and Zambia will be showcasing their works while Malawi will have 10 designers.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the event was held at the now closed HS Winehouse in Blantyre where people saw the best of designs.<\/p>\n<p>The event saw a partnership between Alpha Agency and United Purpose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sam Banda Jnr: After a successful debut event last year, which focused on the deforestation theme, Fashion4Change makes a second step this year.
