{"id":71018,"date":"2018-10-29T04:27:27","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T02:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=71018"},"modified":"2018-10-29T04:27:27","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T02:27:27","slug":"entrepreneurship-key-to-africas-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/10\/29\/entrepreneurship-key-to-africas-development\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Entrepreneurship key to Africa\u2019s development\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Matilda Chimwaza in Lagos, Nigeria: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Founder of Nigeria-based Tony Elumelu Foundation, Tony Elumelu, has said entrepreneurship is the key to the transformation of African countries which mostly depend on donor aid.<\/p>\n<p>Elumelu, who is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/finance\/stocks\/company-officers\/UBA.LG\">United Bank for Africa<\/a> (UBA) chairman, made the remarks in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday during the 2018 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The event is the largest gathering of African entrepreneurs in the world and brings together 5000 entrepreneurs annually.<\/p>\n<p>It provides a unique opportunity which brings together young business talent, creating dynamic networks and transmitting the message to policymakers that a vibrant and responsible private sector will deliver economic transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Elumelu reiterated his commitment to championing Africa\u2019s economic development by supporting and training a new generation of entrepreneurs, whose successes can transform the continent, delivering opportunity, job creation and social impact.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cOur foundation and its unique approach of training, mentoring and funding has proven that entrepreneurship is the key to unlocking economic transformation of our continent.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI believe so strongly that success can be democratised and if we can match ambition to opportunities, this extraordinary generation can achieve anything,\u201d<\/em> Elumelu said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ghanaian President Nana Akudo-Addo underlined the importance of galvanising the broad entrepreneurship eco-system, calling on public sector representatives to encourage, support and replicate the work of the Tony Elumelu Foundation in their respective regions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cNothing is changed or developed on its own.
