{"id":70583,"date":"2018-10-20T06:23:20","date_gmt":"2018-10-20T04:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=70583"},"modified":"2018-10-20T06:24:49","modified_gmt":"2018-10-20T04:24:49","slug":"masters-security-fc-seek-to-upset-nomads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/10\/20\/masters-security-fc-seek-to-upset-nomads\/","title":{"rendered":"Masters Security seek to upset Nomads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Williams Gondwa:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/yasin-osman.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-33748\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/yasin-osman-300x207.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/yasin-osman-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/yasin-osman.jpg 528w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The dramatic Carlsberg Cup party reaches its finale this afternoon when Be Forward Wanderers entertain Masters Security at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>It has been a competition full of surprises with lower-league side <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/big-bullets-hangover-advance-to-semis\/\">Hangover<\/a> partaking in the guzzling party all the way up to the last four stage where they succumbed to Wanderers.<\/p>\n<p>Masters will be playing in their first-ever cup final after booting out giants<a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/masters-security-wing-into-carlsberg-cup-fina\/\"> Nyasa Big Bullets<\/a> 4-3 on post-match penalties.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Migwanya\u2019, as Masters are popularly known, started the campaign by beating Mzuni 8-7 at Dedza Stadium through post-match penalties.<\/p>\n<p>In regulation time, Juma Yatina scored for Masters while Victor Gondwe scored for Mzuni.<\/p>\n<p>The Lilongwe-based side went on to beat Cobbe Barracks 3-1 in the round of 16 at the same venue.<\/p>\n<p>Goals from Captain Francis Mkonda, Yatina and Vincent Nyangulu were enough for Masters to proceed in the competition while Blessings Malemia scored Cobbe\u2019s consolation.<\/p>\n<p>Masters continued their mazy run in the quarterfinals with a 4-3 beating of Mafco through post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Civo Stadium in Lilongwe to book a date with Bullets.<\/p>\n<p>The People\u2019s Team took the lead through Yamikani Fodya but Masters equalised courtesy of John Chalamanda\u2019s goal.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Nomads started their Carlsberg journey by beating Karonga United 2-0 in the round of 32.<\/p>\n<p>Defender Bongani Kaipa and attacker Mike Kaziputa scored a goal each for the Lali Lubani Road side.<\/p>\n<p>In the round of 32, Wanderers whacked Dwangwa United 4-0 at Kamuzu Stadium, thanks to Precious Msosa\u2019s brace, with Zicco Mkanda and Peter Wadabwa scoring a goal each.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 Carlsberg Cup runners-up beat Tigers 5-4 in the quarterfinals through post-match penalties at the same venue.<\/p>\n<p>In 90 minutes, Wanderers scored through Esau Kanyenda while Anthony Namwera netted for Kau Kau.<\/p>\n<p>The Nomads were 3-0 winners over Hangover through Stanly Sanudi, Joseph Kamwendo and Zicco Mkanda to qualify for the final.<\/p>\n<p>Masters Coach Abas Makawa said they are not under pressure ahead of the crunching tie.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are coming from afar and we know what we want. We were not given a chance that we could reach the final but here we are. All is well in our camp and we are ready to re-write Malawi\u2019s football history by winning this cup,\u201d<\/em> Makawa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wanderers Technical Director Yasin Osman said they are not undermining Masters.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThey have improved quite a lot and we know that they want to make history. But we are a big club and we have to win this cup at all cost,\u201d<\/em> Osman said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Carlsberg Cup ambassador Gerald Phiri Junior said the final will be entertaining as both teams play good football.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt feels great to be part of this historic moment and I know that fans will come in large numbers to watch the cup final.
