They are already allowed to do so for bigger packages.<\/p>\n<p>The rise of international online shopping has led to a huge increase in the number of small parcels being sent via the postal system.<\/p>\n<p>American firms say it can cost significantly more to post an item within the US than it does to send the same item to the US from China.<\/p>\n<p>The bid to overhaul the treaty is part of US President Donald Trump\u2019s combative \u201cAmerica First\u201d approach to trade, which has led to tariffs on billions of dollars in goods, attacks on existing trade treaties and criticism of multilateral agreements.\u2014<strong>BBC <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States (US) has announced plans to withdraw from a 144-year-old postal treaty, which the White House says lets China ship goods at unfairly low prices.
