He will be in charge of all sporting disciplines under MPS across the country.<\/p>\n<p>He replaces Stanley Mwalweni, who has been transferred to Mzuzu in another capacity.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview Thursday, Makonyola said he was excited with the trust and confidence that Inspector General of Police Rodney Jose has put in him through the appointment.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt is a great achievement for me and I have accepted it wholeheartedly. I will work hard to ensure that we revive all sporting disciplines in the police,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Following his appointment, Makonyola will be taking the leading role in the appointment and firing of coaches for all police teams in all sporting disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>He will also have the final say on the composition of executive committee members of police teams.<\/p>\n<p>It also means that all sporting disciplines\u2019 committees will be reporting to his office.<\/p>\n<p>Makonyola is one of the country\u2019s highest qualified coaches as he also holds a Caf A Coaching Licence.<\/p>\n<p>He made headlines as a coach when he led the defunct Nkhata Bay Police to TNM Super League promotion from the Northern Region Football Association League.<\/p>\n<p>The team later changed to Eagles Strikers after moving to Northern Region Police Headquarters in Mzuzu, and produced renowned players such as Luka Milanzi, Gilbert Chirwa, Gift Mhlanga, Benjamin Kalua and John Banda.<\/p>\n<p>MPS sponsors Super League side Blue Eagles and Central Region Netball League giants Blue Eagles Sisters, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Eagles won this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/blue-eagles-clinch-airtel-trophy\/\">Airtel Top 8 Cup<\/a> while Eagles Sisters continued their dominance of regional netball by successfully defending the Gateway Mall Challenge Trophy on Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mabvuto Kambuwe; Malawi Police Service (MPS) has appointed former Blue Eagles and Epac coach Audrow Makonyola as the cops\u2019 National Director of Sports.
