You [Lhomwes] should not get worried with whatever the leadership is going through. We know that some people are not happy because they never imagined that we would grow to this level. So let us be brave enough and hold on to our cultural values and principles,\u201d<\/em> Ngolongoliwa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said this ahead of the group\u2019s 11th cultural festival scheduled for this Sunday at its Chonde headquarters in Mulanje District.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the group\u2019s leaders, Ngolongoliwa and Leston Mulli, have been dragged into politics by, among others, linking them to political group, United Transformation Movement (UTM).<\/p>\n<p>Mulli, who is the group\u2019s chairperson, said it is out of frustration that some people connect their leadership to UTM.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cSome people have been saying I and the paramount chief are the founding members of UTM. This is just meant to provoke us and it is not good. I speak when I wish to and I could have said that. It is not good to speak on somebody\u2019s behalf when I can ably do that. Those people have their own agendas,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, Mulli said preparations for the event are over.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have almost tripled all activities to spice up the event. There would be three vehicles which will bring Chibuku beer. Last year, we had 100 drums of locally brewed beer and, this year, we will have 200,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He could not disclose the budget of the event but simply said \u201cthe budget is too big\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/mulhakho-at-patricia-kaliatis-home\/\">Mulhako wa Alhomwe<\/a> was formed in 2007 so as to promote Lhomwe culture and this year\u2019s events are being commemorated under the theme \u2018Culture a Tool for a Unity\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Feston Malekezo: Mulhakho wa Alhomwe\u2014a cultural grouping of Lhomwes\u2014 feels that it is being dragged into party politics, contrary to its objectives.
