{"id":70372,"date":"2018-10-15T09:57:06","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T07:57:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=70372"},"modified":"2018-10-15T09:57:07","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T07:57:07","slug":"mctu-cautions-employers-workers-on-partisanship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/10\/15\/mctu-cautions-employers-workers-on-partisanship\/","title":{"rendered":"MCTU cautions employers, workers on partisanship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Faith Kamtambe:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi Congress of Trade Unions (MCTU) has said\u2014as the 2019 presidential, parliamentary and local government elections approach\u2014workers and employers should handle political issues in a sensitive manner.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAs a body that represents workers, we would like to indicate that there is need for a cordial relationship between employers and employees, particularly when we are drawing closer to elections.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere are instances where employees are fired just because of making a political comment or trying to make a comment that supports another political aspirant. I think this is not acceptable in the multiparty environment because there is freedom of expression and freedom to join any political party,\u201d<\/em> MCTU Secretary General, Dennis Kalekeni, said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kalekeni also urged public workers to tread carefully on politics.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have policies that do not allow someone to practise partisan politics and a good example is in the public sector.
