{"id":70361,"date":"2018-10-15T09:17:46","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T07:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=70361"},"modified":"2018-10-15T09:17:47","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T07:17:47","slug":"tigresses-to-appeal-lauren-ngwiras-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/10\/15\/tigresses-to-appeal-lauren-ngwiras-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"Tigresses to appeal Lauren Ngwira\u2019s ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mphatso Malidadi:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Netball heavyweights Tigresses will appeal Blantyre and Districts Netball Committee\u2019s (BDNC) ruling that the side should not use its player <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/griffin-saenda-wants-lauren-ngwira-wrangle-resolved\/\">Lauren Ngwira<\/a> in the league.<\/p>\n<p>Tigresses Coach-cum-administrator Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa said they were taking up the issue with Southern Region Netball League because the committee\u2019s ruling did not make sense to the team.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have several grounds of our appeal. But I cannot list them down now because that could pre-empt our case,\u201d<\/em> Chawinga-Kaluwa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The former Queens coach and skipper faulted BDNC\u2019s Disciplinary Committee for barring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/tigresses-take-nam-to-task\/\">Ngwira<\/a> from competing for Tigresses in the league.<\/p>\n<p>She further questioned the integrity of the committee\u2019s Disciplinary Committee, saying its Chairperson Chimwemwe Bakali was an interested party.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe feel the ruling is biased because Mr Bakali is also Kukoma Diamonds\u2019 General Secretary and doubles as the league\u2019s Secretary and Chairperson for the Disciplinary Committee. Diamonds are our rivals and there is no way they can allow us to field a strong side. This is why they are making deliberate efforts to bar Lauren from featuring for our team,\u201d<\/em> Chawinga-Kaluwa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Asked for his reaction to Tigresses\u2019 claims, Bakali declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Ngwira was cleared by Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) to play for Team Northumbria in the United Kingdom on a s ix-month loan deal without Tigresses\u2019 consent.<\/p>\n<p>On return to the league, Tigresses\u2019 game against Diamonds was abandoned after the latter protested against Ngwira\u2019s presence, saying she was not eligible to play for Tiga.<\/p>\n<p>Nam clarified that Ngwira was still a Tigresses player but BDNC\u2019s Disciplinary Committee insisted that the Queens player is not registered to take part in league matches<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mphatso Malidadi: Netball heavyweights Tigresses will appeal Blantyre and Districts Netball Committee\u2019s (BDNC) ruling that the side should not use its player Lauren Ngwira in the league.
