Malawi\u2019s Group B opponents in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Cameroon, were scheduled to arrive last night ahead of their return match against the Flames on Tuesday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
According to Football Association of Malawi General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, the visitors had communicated that they would arrive at Chileka Airport on a chartered plane for the match.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are arriving tonight [last night] and they emailed us to confirm their flight schedule,\u201d Gunda said.<\/p>\n
He also confirmed that the Flames would arrive at Chileka this afternoon after spending a night in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Flames under fire coach Ronny Van Geneugden (RVG) has said Malawi can still make it to next year\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals despite back-to-back defeats at the hands of Morocco and Cameroon.<\/p>\n
Malawi\u2019s chances of reaching the Promised Land were heavily compromised after a 1-0 loss to Cameroon on Friday in Yaound\u00e9 just a month after the Flames lost 3-0 to Morocco in another away match.<\/p>\n
But despite the two consecutive defeats, the Belgian, who has only won two games since he took over in April last year, said the Flames have realistic chances of making it to the next year\u2019s finals .<\/p>\n
RVG said the match against Cameroon on Tuesday is a must win for the Flames to keep their qualification dream alive.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019We still have the chances. It is just a matter of winning the return match against Cameroon and closing the gap. Morocco will play Cameroon at home with possibilities that the Cameroonians will get something out of this game. But we have to fight our own battles,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
The Belgian trainer said Cameroon should expect a tough battle when the two sides lock horns in the return leg slated for Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think individual quality made the difference [in the Friday match] but if we evaluate the game correctly, there would be a big battle on Tuesday. We have to be proud of the boys considering the manner in which they managed the match. It is now up to the fans to come in large numbers to support the team and make life difficult for Cameroon,\u201d RVG, who is among Malawi\u2019s worst foreign coaches, if statistics are anything to go by, said.<\/p>\n
He has managed only two victories, nine draws and seven losses in 18 games since he took over in April last year.<\/p>\n
