I have done a lot of awareness programmes for various companies but not HTD but, surprisingly, they are the first to come out. I did nothing to them but they have helped me because of my contribution to the nation in the creative industry,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>HTD Limited Sales Executive, Jawad Imedi, said Mabedi has entertained the nation for years, contributing immensely to the development of the arts, hence supporting him.<\/p>\n<p>Mabedi is waiting for the government to act, after submitting relevant documents.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cToday I was also submitting some papers to lawyers. I just want to make sure that all the paperwork is done; otherwise, I am waiting for communication from the government,\u201d<\/em> Mabedi said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The actor, who is undergoing dialysis at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre, is in urgent need of a kidney transplant and needs K20 million to travel to India.<\/p>\n<p>Friends of Eric Mabedi sounded an SOS calling on well-wishers to help the veteran actor, who is also Kwathu Drama Group Director and National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) President.<\/p>\n<p>Friends of Eric Mabedi spokerperson, Higger Mkandawire, said they want to make sure that the veteran actor leaves for India this month.<\/p>\n<p>Mabedi also hailed all those who have come forward to support him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI would like to thank all those who have come forward since an SOS was sounded. I am very grateful,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ministry of Health spokesperson, Joshua Malango, recently said the government would help the veteran actor.<\/p>\n<p>Malango further said the government, through the Ministry of Health, was communicating with Mabedi, family members and all those involved.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Ntam held a fundraising show in Lilongwe which raised K122,000.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, Ntam also held a fundraising show in Blantyre, where they raised K247,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sam Banda Jnr: HTD Limited Thursday donated K100,000 to veteran actor and comedian Eric Mabedi, popularly known as Jakobo, to help towards his trip to India.
