As we are approaching time for the elections, we are talking of the importance of having party monitors. We want the parties to be aware of the importance of the exercise and the type of people they should select for the exercise. When we talk of safeguarding [rights] once people vote, we want to make sure that there should be no mistake in the process of counting and other processes,\u201d<\/em> Tenthani said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He was speaking in Lilongwe during a workshop on \u2018Safeguarding the Vote\u2019\u2014 organised by The International Republican Institute (IRI) in partnership with CMD\u2014 which focused on the role of party monitors in elections and the participation of youths.<\/p>\n<p>IRI Resident Country Director, Lara Petricevic Williams, said parties have a crucial role to play to ensure that election outcomes reflect the will of people.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt [safeguarding the vote] is extremely important because political parties are main stakeholders in elections. Party monitors have to be present at polling stations; they have an active role to play in the process.
