{"id":70186,"date":"2018-10-10T09:25:46","date_gmt":"2018-10-10T07:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=70186"},"modified":"2018-10-10T09:25:47","modified_gmt":"2018-10-10T07:25:47","slug":"malawi-mozambique-cement-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/10\/10\/malawi-mozambique-cement-relationship\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi, Mozambique cement relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Blessings Kang\u2019ombe, Contributor: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi and Mozambique security agents on Monday cemented bilateral relations as one way of resolving conflicts that often swirl at Tsangano Turn-off Market in Ntcheu District.<\/p>\n<p>The market lies along the borders of the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting follows a fracas that ensued last week after Malawian communities accused a Burundian national who resides and operates businesses on the Mozambican side of having a hand in the missing of a boy.<\/p>\n<p>In the process, Malawian nationals went on rampage but, fortunately, police on both sides of the border were alert and quelled the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the meeting, Ntcheu Police Station Officer-in-Charge, John Nkhoma, said physical boundaries between Malawi and Mozambique should not divide people but enhance relationship.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are one, regardless of where we are residing. But let us remind each other that co-existence is paramount. It is, therefore, important people should adhere to laws that govern us,\u201d<\/em> Nkhoma said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said law enforcement agencies from both sides would intensify patrols along the border area to address emerging issues.<\/p>\n<p>A representative of Mozambican police responsible for Ntcheu, Dedza, Mwanza and Nchalo borders, Buanchaque Bacoza, advised community members to consult relevant authorities when misunderstandings arise.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have chiefs, law enforcers and other authorities that can be consulted whenever we have concerns. And when we follow procedures of resolving conflicts, peace will prevail among us,\u201d<\/em> Bomba said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Village Head (VH) Kanjonjo of Mozambique and VH Kalulu of Malawi said traditional leaders have a responsibility to civic-educate subjects on the negative effects of conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>Tsangano Turn-off Market is famous for agricultural produce such as cabbages, tomatoes, Irish potatoes and onions.<\/p>\n<p>People travelling between Blantyre and Lilongwe usually stop at the market to buy food items.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Blessings Kang\u2019ombe, Contributor: Malawi and Mozambique security agents on Monday cemented bilateral relations as one way of resolving conflicts that often swirl at Tsangano Turn-off Market in Ntcheu District.
