{"id":70140,"date":"2018-10-09T09:57:05","date_gmt":"2018-10-09T07:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=70140"},"modified":"2018-10-09T09:57:05","modified_gmt":"2018-10-09T07:57:05","slug":"germany-appreciates-malawi-government-vote-at-un-security-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/10\/09\/germany-appreciates-malawi-government-vote-at-un-security-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany appreciates Malawi government vote at UN Security Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Rebecca Chimjeka: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70145\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70145\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/jurgen-borsch-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-70145\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/jurgen-borsch-1-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/jurgen-borsch-1-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/jurgen-borsch-1-768x342.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/jurgen-borsch-1.jpg 820w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70145\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BORSCH\u2014We appreciate the overwhelming endorsement<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>German ambassador to Malawi, J\u00fcrgen Borsch, has lauded the Malawi government for endorsing it to have a seat in United Nations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-un-election\/un-security-council-elects-five-members-for-2-year-term-idUSKCN1J4258\">(UN) Security Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From January 1 next year, Germany is going to take a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe appreciate the overwhelming endorsement of our partners for this step and let me express our special thanks to the government of Malawi for their support and confidence in our engagement in the United Nations,\u2019\u2019<\/em> Borsch said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said Germany has a lot to contribute within the UN and would be an advocate of Africa\u2019s adequate representation in the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cGermany believes that only if closest neighbour Africa is successful and flourishing will we be successful as well,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the issue of Malawi- Germany cordial relationship, Borsch said the two countries are committed to shared values, democratic rule and mutual respect of individuals and nations, including the protection of human rights.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, said it was in this regard that Malawi should emulate the unification of Germany that took place 28 years ago after the fall of the Berlin wall, which he described as a symbol of peace and prosperity.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe reunification of Germany, 28 years ago, following four decades of partition, was the historic gift of a powerful movement in East Germany.
