Mafco looked more determined than Bullets but failed to capitalise on the hosts’ dismal performance characterised by a jittery defence that struggled to clear loose balls.

Missing the services of chief striker Chiukepo Msowoya due to his accumulation of yellow cards and the injured duo of Patrick Phiri and Fisher Kondowe, the People’s Team produced a below par performance in all departments and could have lost the match in the league had Mafco been more effective.

After the game, Mafco Coach Tione Mhone, whose team remains 15th on the table with 17 points, blamed officiation for the loss.

“We played well and controlled the game but the referee gave them a cheap penalty. This is killing football in Malawi. It is not good that teams should be complaining of officiation every week,” Mhone said.

Bullets Coach Rodgers Yasin said it was a tough game.

“We knew that Mafco would come hard on us because they are looking for survival in the league. We did not play well but this is normal because when teams are meeting us, they always prepare well,” Yasini said.

In other games played yesterday, Mzuni beat Tigers 3-1 through Ramadhan Mtafu, Shenton Banda and Lughano Kaira. Luke Chima scored Tigers’ consolation.

Maxwell Salambula claimed a hat trick when Blue Eagles walloped struggling Nchalo United 3-1 with Cuthbert Sinetre scoring Nchalo’s lone goal.

But Dwangwa United gave away a 2-1 lead to allow Silver to force a 2-2 draw. Hassan Upindi and Wacheta Mwenifumbo scored for Dwangwa while Khuda Muyaba and Thuso Paipi replied for the bankers.

Action continues this afternoon with Be Forward Wanderers hosting Red Lions at Kamuzu Stadium while Civil Sporting and Masters Security meet at Civo Stadium.

Tigers will wind up their Northern Region tour with an encounter against Moyale at Mzuzu Stadium whereas TN Stars welcome Nchalo at Kasungu Stadium.

By Isaac Salima Nyasa Big Bullets consolidated their grip at the summit of the TNM Super League log table after coming from behind to beat struggling Mafco 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre Saturday.
