{"id":69422,"date":"2018-09-19T09:18:43","date_gmt":"2018-09-19T07:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=69422"},"modified":"2018-09-19T09:18:44","modified_gmt":"2018-09-19T07:18:44","slug":"nomads-through-to-the-quarter-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/09\/19\/nomads-through-to-the-quarter-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"Nomads through to the quarter finals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Isaac Salima:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69425\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69425\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/isaac-kaliayi-wanderers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-69425\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/isaac-kaliayi-wanderers-300x182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/isaac-kaliayi-wanderers-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/isaac-kaliayi-wanderers.jpg 602w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69425\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DOMINANT\u2014Wanderers\u2019 Isaac Kaliati tries to control the ball<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Be Forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/cracks-in-nomads-supporters-committee\/\">Wanderers<\/a> cruised into the Carlsberg Cup quarter-finals after thrashing Dwangwa United 4-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Nomads, who have been struggling to score in the TNM Super League, rediscovered their scoring formula as goals from strikers Zicco Mkanda, Peter Wadabwa and defender Precious Sambani\u2019s double sealed the win.<\/p>\n<p>Wanderers date Tigers in the last-eight whereas Dwangwa, who scored the consolation goal through Muhammad Biason, are out of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Dwangwa are from the sugarcane growing district of Nkhotakota but they had a sour outing while the Nomads registered a sweet win.<\/p>\n<p>Wanderers went ahead in the fifth-minute through Mkanda who connected home a cross from Wadabwa, who had outpaced a defender for the visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Dwangwa were no pushovers as they managed to contain the Nomads for the better part of the first-half.<\/p>\n<p>However, Dwangwa\u2019s exciting passing game had no impact as they lacked the cutting edge and they were further betrayed by their failure to deal with set-pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Little wonder, Wadabwa headed from a corner-kick in the 11 minute the second goal before Sambani made it 3-0 in similar fashion in the 23 minute. The Flames defender claimed his brace in injury time to complete the rout.<\/p>\n<p>After the game, Dwangwa assistant Coach, Maxwell Mbetewa, attributed the defeat to his charges\u2019 fatigue.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe left Dwangwa Tuesday evening and had a breakdown on the way. This resulted in fatigue on the part of the players who failed to tick. But it was not a bad performance. I am happy with the way the team played,\u201d<\/em> Mbetewa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wanderers Coach, Bob Mpinganjira, said the early goal they scored worked to their advantage.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe knew that Dwangwa are a good side. We told our players not to underrate them. They [Dwangwa] played well but we scored an early goal that worked to our advantage.
