{"id":69121,"date":"2018-09-06T11:22:24","date_gmt":"2018-09-06T09:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=69121"},"modified":"2018-09-06T11:22:25","modified_gmt":"2018-09-06T09:22:25","slug":"census-delays-in-mangochi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/09\/06\/census-delays-in-mangochi\/","title":{"rendered":"Census delays in Mangochi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Jarson Malowa, Contributor:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The collection of data in the 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/population-and-housing-census-in-k1-6-billion-deficit\/\">Population and Housing<\/a><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69125\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69125\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nso-officials.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-69125\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nso-officials-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nso-officials-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nso-officials-768x342.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nso-officials.jpg 820w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69125\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">READY\u2014 NSO and International Programmes Population Division officials<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>(PHC) delayed by a day in Mangochi District.<\/p>\n<p>As National Statistical Offices enumerators in other districts had started collecting data on Monday, the exercise started on Tuesday in Mangochi.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner of Statistics, Mercy Kanyuka, on Tuesday said this was the case because the district got tablets later than other districts.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cMangochi District got the tablets on Thursday last week, instead of Wednesday, and distribution of the tablets to our enumerators there took place on Saturday,\u201d<\/em> Kanyuka said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Apart from delays in delivering the tablets, she said finalisation of payments was delayed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cOther logistics also affected the commencement of the process because payments were being processed on Sunday and payment was done on Monday as compared to other districts, which received their pay on Thursday and Friday last week,\u201d<\/em> Kanyuka said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She spoke in the presence of Chief Director, International Programmes Population Division, at the United States Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., Oliver Fischer, who said he was impressed with the leadership of NSO.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have been working hand-in-hand with the National Statistical Office for over two years as one way of making this [data collection] a high quality exercise and we need everyone in the country to make sure they play a role of making the exercise a success,\u201d<\/em> Fischer said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>All enumerators are expected to receive their training allowance, pegged at K120,000, in phases before the end of 21 days, on condition that full payment would be made once they return tablets.<\/p>\n<p>Already, two tablets have been stolen in Ntcheu District, according to Ntcheu Police Station spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jarson Malowa, Contributor: The collection of data in the 2018 Population and Housing (PHC) delayed by a day in Mangochi District.
