Four TNM Super League teams; Big Bullets FC, Silver Strikers, Blue Eagles and Civo Service United will be involved in a two-day fundraising charity bonanza in Lilongwe this weekend.<\/p>\n
The bonanza, which has been christened Inter-city Soccer Fiesta, is intended to raise funds to help Mua School for the Hearing Impaired, a Roman Catholic charity organisation based in Dedza which is struggling financially to feed children at the school.<\/p>\n
Frank Katundulu, a Lilongwe-based resident who owns Hock Enterprise, a metal engineering and fabrication business, is coordinating the bonanza.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea came up a month ago when I read in one of our local newspapers that the school was in dire need of financial assistance to be able to feed the children. The school is in the area of Honourable Juliana Lunguzi and I verified with her and decided to solicit something little through the bonanza,\u201dsaid Katundulu on Saturday.<\/p>\n
He said the Football Association of Malawi (Fam) had certified the dates for the bonanza after he met the requirement of depositing K3.5 million in the association\u2019s account as an organization or individual to hold such an activity.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, according to Katundulu, all the teams have signed contracts to take part in the bonanza.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am overwhelmed with the response the teams gave me when I approached them for the cause. Of course, they demanded appearance fees which I will deposit in their accounts this week, otherwise, they are considerate because they understand that I am doing it entirely for charity not personal gains,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He, however, did not disclose the targeted funds to be raised from the bonanza.<\/p>\n
Bullets vice spokesperson Kelvin Moyo and Civo\u2019s general secretary Rashid Ntelera, confirmed in separate interviews that their teams would take part in the bonanza whose draw is expected to take place this afternoon.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe accepted to take part because he (Katundulu) is doing it for charity,\u201d who? said.<\/p>\n
